Bing becomes the default ChatGPT browser
Microsoft Bing has recently become the default search engine for ChatGPT. This means it’s fully integrated into ChatGPT, enabling the AI chatbot to provide real-time, up-to-date answers from Bing search.
But wait—didn’t this already happen with the launch of the web browsing plugin?
Yes and no. With the plugin, users could access the web via ChatGPT’s Bing plugin. Now, however, Bing's search functionality is fully integrated within the chat, making web browsing native to the platform.
Bing content will now be seen by millions more people daily. Therefore, instead of (just) optimizing content for Google search, you now need to optimize for Bing too.
Top tips for marketers
Quality backlinks: Bing SEO focuses on the quality of backlinks over their quantity. It favors organic links from relevant and trusted websites, especially .edu, .org, and .gov links. It also favors links from older domains.
On-page SEO: Bing still relies on some older ranking factors: exact match domains and exact keyword usage in headings, alt tags, and meta descriptions. Unlike Google, Bing hasn't dismissed meta keywords and descriptions as a ranking factor.
High-quality content: Content should be unique, engaging, and user-focused. Incorporate clear authorship, sourced information, and multimedia elements.
Schema markup: Using schema markup enhances search result richness and comprehension. Use Bing's Markup Validator tool for validation.
Bing Webmaster Tools: They provide valuable insights, such as keywords you rank for, your indexed backlinks, and spammy links to avoid.
