Social Media Roundup

In this edition, we’re going to briefly dig into the latest social media AI-updates and what these mean for marketers.

TikTok’s experimenting with a tool that’ll allow users to create generative AI avatars (like Lensa AI).

Users upload 3 - 10 photos, select up to 5 different styles, and the tool will create 30 avatars.

Why should marketers care?

  • Marketers know that characters sell. Think of the Malboro Man, Michelin Man, Green Giant, or Tony the Tiger.

  • Now, they might be able to create character-based avatars for their TikTok campaigns.

  • This could potentially help marketers increase ad ROI…. Could.

Meta to “introduce AI agents to billions of people”, after announcing that users are spending 24% longer on Instagram since Meta launched AI-powered reels.

In other words, AI is coming for everything Meta owns, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

Why should marketers care?

  • Integrating AI chatbots into WhatsApp will help more businesses engage in chat-based customer support.

  • Marketers can boost their customer experiences at minimal cost and basically no effort.

  • And rather than asking advertisers to generate their own ads, Meta will soon use generative AI to create ads based on what it knows about their target audience.

Productivity Nugget: Using AI to Write Case Studies 2x Quicker

This week, I used AI to write a case study in half the time it usually takes me.

Here's my step-by-step process:

  1. Open Otter.ai: I had Otter.ai record and transcribe the call with the client in real time.

  2. Paste the transcript into GPT4: I took the full transcript and pasted it into GPT4, alongside the following prompt: “I’m writing a case study for a LegalTech company. The goal is to demonstrate how [firm] uses [tool] to increase productivity and profitability. Turn the transcript below into a case study outline that follows the PAS (problem-agitate-solution) framework).

  3. Ask GPT4 to flesh out the outline: Having received an outline I was happy with, I asked GPT4 to fill it out with relevant information from the transcript. I then had a fully-formed structure and relevant quotes from the call that I could use for each section.

  4. Write up and polish with WordTune: I then used my own brainpower (crazy, right?) to properly write up the case study. When I struggled to find the right way to word something, I used WordTune’s Google Docs extension to instantly provide me with a range of suggestions to choose from.

  5. Edit in Grammarly Premium: Finally, I edited the piece in Grammarly Pro to ensure I hadn’t made any silly mistakes. Done!

All in all, the process took me about 2 hours, compared to the usual 4+ hours I spend writing case studies. Not bad, eh?

Last week, Snapchat launched its new “My AI” feature, integrating GPT technology into its new chatbot.

But its release hasn’t gone as intended.

Over the past week, 75% of Snapchat’s U.S. App Store reviews were 1*.

Users were unhappy that My AI appeared at the top of their Chat feed, and that it can’t be removed or blocked.

My AI has also shown that it knows users' location—even if they’re not sharing this information in Snap Map. No bueno.

Why should marketers care?

  • Snapchat integrated AI into its product without asking whether users wanted it, where to put it, or giving them the option to turn it off.

  • This is a valuable lesson. Don’t simply jump aboard the AI bandwagon because everyone else is. And if you do, consult customers first.

Canadian artist Grimes has publicly stated that she’ll happily split the royalties of any AI-generated song that uses her voice 50/50. How kind.

OpenAI is rolling out new security options. For example, users can turn off Chat History, which means the information you provide won’t be used to train the models. They’ve also rolled out a new ChatGPT Business subscription for professionals who need more control over their data and enterprises seeking to manage their end users.

Imagine Ironman, Black Widow, Captain America, and Thanos all duking it out to be crowned Masterchef by Gordon Ramsay. Yeah—this AI-generated video is as mad as it sounds.
