We’ve Seen the Future…

Up until now, Generative AI has been like a dog playing fetch. Throw it a ball, and it’ll go get it. But you still need to throw the ball.

However, not for much longer. Enter AutoGPT and other autonomous AI agents.

Instead of asking these agents what you should do (e.g. tell me how to conduct market research), they just go ahead and complete the actual task itself.

Yeah. They’re kind of a big deal. And we’ll show you how to use them.

Using Autonomous AI Agents for Marketing

First, if you want to use AutoGPT, set it up by following the exact steps laid out in this thread.

(Be warned: it’s pretty complicated for non-technical users like us, so feel free to wait a few weeks until someone inevitably makes it much easier!)

Next, it’s time to have some fun.

Here are three examples of how to use AutoGPT for marketing.

1. Conducting market research

With AutoGPT, you can spin up your own market research agent. Like Sully Omarr, who used AutoGPT to research the market for waterproof shoes.

Sully’s agent:

  • Browsed the internet to find reviews of the top 5 waterproof shoe brands.

  • Created questions for itself like: "What are the pros and cons of each shoe?”

  • Created a sub-agent to analyze different websites.

  • Decided for itself whether a review was likely to be fake.

  • Finally, produced a detailed report of the top 5 waterproof shoe companies with their pros, cons, and a neat summary.

2. Make a members-only website from scratch

Sully Omarr also managed to use AutoGPT to create a website from scratch in just 10 minutes (at a cost of just $0.50).

AutoGPT rapidly:

  • Created a login/sign-up page

  • Styled it with Bootstrap (a system for building websites that comes with pre-designed elements like buttons, navigation bars, and forms.)

  • Created a local json database (an easy way to store structured data on your computer)

What’s most impressive is that this wasn’t just a generic landing page and placeholder copy—it was a fully-functional, gated, members-only website… with a proper login page and everything!

Watch out Squarespace, AutoGPT’s coming for ya.

3. Read the news and create topical content

James Baker created a GPT agent that can read up on recent events and prepare a podcast outline based on its research.

He used it to create an outline for the next All-In podcast, and the results are amazing (even presenter “Rainman David Sacks” agrees.)

Not only does the agent search the web, create a 5-topic outline, provide accurate references, and write the opener, it even explains its reasoning.

Marketing Map Mastery with a Cognitive Copilot

Superus is an AI copilot that can create interactive marketing plans for you.

Simply create a text card, enter your task (such as ‘Grow my LinkedIn audience’), and use AI to create a step-by-step process.

You can even ask it to explain what it means with each step. For example, when I ask for more detail on the card ‘Engage with your audience,’ it explains why engagement is important, tells me how to engage with my audience, and gives me some top tips to bear in mind.

Our Take: Superus is fantastic for marketers who are just beginning to plan a massive project and want to visually map out every step along the way. We’re fans!

However, proceed with caution

Before you fully automate every aspect of your jobs, remember that autonomous AI agents aren’t there yet. Use them to spark ideas and flesh out first passes. However, always:

  • Sense-check their output

  • Verify claims they make

  • Rely on human oversight before putting their work into action
