Adobe hits back with Fireflyā€”and itā€™s pretty awesome

The rise of DALLĀ·E 2, Midjourney, and the release of the DragGAN research paper led us to recently question if Adobeā€™s Photoshop was dead.

But we mightā€™ve spoken too soon.

Adobe has just integrated its generative AI Firefly tools into Photoshop as a ā€˜creative co-pilotā€™. This means users can rapidly add, modify, or remove elements in images using just a simple text prompt.

For example, the Generative Fill feature allows users to select a section of an existing photo and fill it out with new AI imagery based on an accompanying text prompt.

Hereā€™s what this looks like.

However, note that as of now, Firefly and its Generative Fill feature are in beta and are not available for commercial use.

How marketers can benefit from the Adobe Firefly x Photoshop integration

  • To complement Midjourney and DALLĀ·E 2: Create an image in Midjourney and then use the Generative Fill feature to flesh it out. Check out this example for inspiration.

  • To enhance collaboration: Firefly's integration into Photoshop will enable multiple marketers to work on the same image at once, facilitating real-time edits, feedback sharing, and sketch sharing.

  • To cut down on freelance design costs: By getting to grips with how to use the new Photoshop, you can reduce your freelance design expenditure.

3 free AI Chrome extensions to catapult your productivity

Tired of reading about new AI tools that promise the world but will cost you a pretty penny to use? If so, youā€™re in luck.

Here are a few amazing (and free) AI-powered Chrome extensions to check out, courtesy of Angry Tom. (Sounds a lot like my co-founderā€¦)

An automated assistant that simplifies complex language, explains unfamiliar terms, and provides more information to help you understand a piece of text. Great if youā€™re researching an unfamiliar topic.

Iā€™m a huge fan of Otter.aiā€”but Fireflies.ai does the exact same thing (recording and transcribing meetings/calls) for free. The catch? It only works with Google Meets. Generate meeting transcripts with speaker names, detailed meeting summaries, notes, and action items after every meeting.

This extension allows you to use ChatGPT (Plugins & GPT-4), Bard, Bing, and Claude on any website without copy-pasting. You can write, rewrite, summarize, translate, explain, or reply to any text everywhere with one click.

Pros and cons from Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE)

SEO whizz Brodie Clark has taken a sneak peek at Google's upcoming Search Generative Experience (SGE).

Here are his pros and cons.

Pros

  1. Featured snippets wonā€™t be replaced

  2. Generative AI is an option, not the default setting

  3. Googleā€™s prioritizing organic links vs ads

Cons

  1. Google doesnā€™t provide exact in-text citations (unlike Bing)

  2. It takes several seconds to generate an AI-powered answer

  3. Users can use SGE for too many queries, not just No One Right Answer (NORA)
